07.07.2010 Ed Balls highlights Con Dem letdown for Ipswich schools

Ed Balls stopped off at Chantry High School on his way to a meeting with Labour Party members and supporters yesterday evening.  The day's news had been dominated by the Con Dem Government's abandonment of "Building Schools for the Future", Labour's programme to rebuild or refurbish every high school in the country.

In Ipswich this means that children at high schools like Chantry, Stoke and Westbourne will continue to be educated in sub-standard buildings. A question mark remains over the future of Holywells and whether the school will be rebuilt as an academy on a new site near Gainsborough Sports Centre.
