23.07.2010 Ipswich Tory MP quizzed over expenses

After just 2 months as an MP Tory, Benedict Gummer, is under scrutiny about expenses in his election campaign.

A joint investigation by Channel 4 News and the Bureau of Investigative Journalism has found that Mr Gummer was paying a consultant – described as his ‘campaign manager’ – thousands of pounds up to the time of the dissolution of parliament - but no reference to any such payments after that time appears in his election expenses returns, over which there are strict regulations.

This has been described as ‘mysterious’.
