Chris Mole MP welcomes today's announcement by Government Housing Minister John Healey MP, that Ipswich is now one of 56 areas nationwide to receive specialist attention as part of a Government drive to help people who are struggling to pay their mortgages. The Government's new public awareness drive includes local press and television advertising, establishing a special helpline and running engagement events where those struggling to pay their mortgages can talk with an adviser face-to-face. Whilst repossessions are only running at nearly half the rate of the last recession, the Government still views it a priority to step in and help those people who are in need. As one of 56 repossession hotspot areas nationwide, Ipswich has been targeted for special Government assistance. This will build on the 330,000 households already helped nationwide by the Government. Responding to the news, Chris said: "I am really pleased to see the Labour Government concentrating their efforts on Ipswich to help people who are struggling with their mortgage during this difficult financial time. Whilst there have been significantly fewer repossessions that under a Tory Government during the last recession, it is still really important that those people who are struggling, get the help they need. I can only encourage anybody having difficulty to get in touch with my office and I will do everything I can to help out." | |
