Safer Neighbourhood Teams (SNTs)

Safer Neighbourhoods sign

SNTs (Safer Neighbourhood Teams) - a Labour government initiative - have been one of the most significant developments in local policing in recent years.  From their bases in the communities they serve, the police officers and Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs) that make up the teams tackle the issues that matter to local people.

Ipswich has five SNTs across the borough:

Central Ipswich

North East Ipswich

North West Ipswich

South East Ipswich

South West Ipswich

Each team is lead by at least one sargent, who reports to one of the two inspectors managing the teams.  You can find out more about each time by clicking on the name.  Day-to-day contact with local people, regular meetings with local councillors and more formal consultation ensures that the SNTs know what concerns local people.

The SNTs have helped us move beyond expecting the police to solve every problem.  Well developed links with other individuals and organisations in the community mean that the person or group best equiped to deal with a problem can take the lead, with others providing support as necessary.
