Ipswich rail fares petition

Ipswich rail passengers pay higher fares than they should because Ipswich is outside the Network Railcard Area. Sandy Martin MP is working to get this changed. You can help him do this, by signing his petition.

We the undersigned believe that the economic health of Ipswich and the wellbeing of Ipswich residents requires an effective affordable rail link to London.  We applaud the introduction of new trains and look forward to more reliable services, but we are dismayed by the price of walk-on fares to London from Ipswich, which are currently some of the most expensive fares in the UK. We call on the Rail Delivery Group to include Ipswich in the Network Railcard Area, so that Network Railcards could be used to make business and employment journeys more affordable, and in addition we demand that Abellio Greater Anglia reduce the price of walk-on journeys from Ipswich to London

The service is plagued by cancellations, reductions in service such as no refreshments, bus replacements etc. All take place with no compensation on offer, but at a cripplingly premium price.

My season ticket to Liverpool St is almost £7,000 per year for a just over 1hr journey. Commuters into London who have a similar length journey often pay up to half that. So why is ours so overpriced?

I use the train to get to work every day and I pay roughly £115 for a monthly ticket between Manningtree and Ipswich, which I feel is far too much. It’s a 10 minute train journey.

Please reduce rail fares. Rail fares are extortionate more people would travel on the train if it were cheaper .
