Save Suffolk's Remaining Children's Centres

Our children's centres are a vital lifeline for hundreds of families.

With reports that the Conservatives at Suffolk County Council are set to close half of our remaining children's centres, we need to show our support to children and parents across our county by fighting for their survival.

The children’s centres are a lifeline to many parents and a fantastic way to give children an early start to learning and social skills. This then has a positive impact when starting school. Also, without the support of the centres it will add additional pressure to services such as GP’s and health visitors which are already under stress.

The Conservatives wanted to close Centres in the area where I used to live and caused a lot of upset after all the hard work they did raising money to improve the centre. I had the privilege as Deputy Mayor to open a new sensory garden 4 years ago at my local centre and was saddened to hear of the threat at that time. Luckily this one was spared but some weren’t. Any impending closure would be a loss to the community it serves for families with young children where they can learn through play and where parents can get advice on health, money, jobs etc. Please don’t let this happen in Suffolk by shutting down these vital Centres down which are vital family community resource.

How can we think about cutting funding and closing children’s centres when new mothers and sometimes fathers are usually out of work or on low paid or finished maternity/paternity leave. We can’t afford to pay for some of these essential sessions and we have found using THE PHOENIX CENTRE IN SUDBURY an absolute god send. If it wasn’t for the Phoenix centre myself and my husband wouldn’t have been able to do the first aid course! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE reconsider cutting funding and/or closing any further childrens centres as they are having a huge positive impact on society!

We must en-devour to save as many childrens centre as possible. Have people ever conducted a questionnaire regarding which children’s centres are having a positive impact! DO NOT CUT FUNDING TO THE PHOENIX CHILDRENS CENTRE IN SUDBURY especially as Cornfields is apparently due to close and anyone who uses cornfields will end up going to Phoenix! Packed out sessions will make the experience for all new parents not as engaging and thus less constructive! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do not cut any more funding to any childrens centres!
