Stoke Park Ward - Tony Blacker

Tony Blacker is the Labour Party candidate for Stoke Park at the Borough Council election on Thursday 2nd May 2019.

Tony has recently moved to Prince of Wales Drive, having lived in Stoke Park Ward in St Catherine's Court for a number of years.

I am genuinely excited by this opportunity to make a difference to the area of Ipswich that I have spent a large portion of my life living and working in.

I am not a stereotypical candidate, in that I have very little background in active politics.  However, I have a keen interest in politics at all levels, and life experiences which I can bring to bear to help effect improvements to this area. I am a “people person” and happy to discuss or debate with anybody at any level.

In my role within the NHS leadership academy, a big part of my remit is to connect disparate parts of the NHS together with local service providers to help the patient journey - I believe this approach is one that can also be taken into local government and can help to deliver cost savings whilst also improving outcomes for local residents. I enjoy encountering different opinions to my own, and finding ways in which people of opposing outlooks can work together to a common goal.

I believe my history of having been variously self employed, a “gig economy” worker, a social housing tenant, and now a home owner working in the public sector brings with it a different perspective to the role which will allow me to not only connect with residents but also to represent them effectively.
