Ipswich Labour Party clinches Best Practice Award for its General Election campaign in the Best Digital Campaign category.
Ipswich MP, Sandy Martin, Election Agent John Cook and Martin Cook, who led on the Party’s digital campaign strategy, were invited on to the Conference stage to accept the award from Labour Leader, Jeremy Corbyn.
During the General Election campaign, we served 242,024 Facebook adverts to 20,172 people, raising the profile of Sandy Martin. Our Facebook campaign lead to a doubling of traffic to our website, and signposted voters to make donations, apply for postal or proxy votes, and to get actively involved in the campaign.
Additionally, we were able to inform voters about Labour’s manifesto commitments and what they would mean for them, their families and their local community. Our digital campaign was not an add-on. It supplemented and enhanced our doorstep and school gates campaigns, taking our message to hard-to-reach voters.
Labour’s share of the vote in Ipswich increased by 10.3% whilst the Tory vote remained static. Sandy Martin won the election by 831 votes, one of three Labour gains in the East of England on 8th June.
We broadcast Sandy’s victory live from the Count – which was just as well as the BBC had cut away to the news! And followed this up by covering his departure from Ipswich to take up his seat and broadcasting his maiden speech.
Our Facebook page now has 4,380 likes compared to 637 at the start of the year, and virtually all this growth is from Ipswich residents.
