Jack Abbott, Labour and Co-operative Parliamentary Candidate for Ipswich, said:

“Suffolk is going to play host to new nuclear, wind and solar, so we must ensure that the thousands of direct and indirect jobs that will be created are filled by people from the county, including Ipswich.

“That means the Government, EDF and other developers will need to work closely with local authorities, businesses and the education sector, providing investment, resources and an overarching strategy.

“If I had the privilege of representing Ipswich in Parliament, I would ensure new investment in skills and training is directed into Ipswich and we have people from our town securing the jobs on offer.

“I want to see young people coming through our university, colleges and schools to have a well-paid, high-skilled job at the end of their education and for people to be able to re-train and embark on a new career.

“The energy transition brings real opportunity, but the potential won’t be realised unless there is now a real focus. If new employment and investment is generated then we have to retain it in Suffolk – we can’t let it simply slip away.”
