More than 25,000 people in Ipswich eating less or skipping meals as food inflation hits 19.1% – new figures

New analysis from Ipswich Labour reveals more than 25,000 people in Ipswich are skipping meals or eating less thanks to the deepening cost of living crisis.

The analysis, based on Resolution Foundation research, comes as new figures from the ONS show food inflation at a staggering 19.1% – its fastest pace in 40 years.

The Resolution Foundation estimates that almost one in five (18%) people have skipped meals or eaten less in the last month – in Ipswich that is the equivalent of 25,131 people.

Publishing the analysis, Jack Abbott, Labour’s parliamentary candidate for Ipswich, said:

“The cost of living crisis is getting deeper and deeper, and families in Ipswich are paying the price. Nearly 1 in 5 people have now been forced to skip meals or eat less, but the Conservatives have turned the other way despite causing this desperate situation through brutal cuts, the shrinking of wages in real-terms, and a succession of disastrous economic decisions.

“They blame everyone else for the mess they’ve made, and have left the rest of us to pick up the bill. This can’t go on. At the next General Election, we’ve got to put an end to more than a decade of misery. Labour will lift people out of poverty, not condemn them to it.”
